Set on the north Cornish coast, Newquay is one if not the most popular resort in Cornwall. Originally the area started life as a fortified cliff settlement in the Iron Age. Tin and china clay provided the locals with a good income, and trading was made easy thanks to its easily accessible port. Later, as locals hit upon harder times, smuggling became a popular pastime.
